Bifacial panels generate additional current from reflected light on their rear face — a detail worth understanding for cable sizing.
Bifacial solar panels capture light on both their front and rear faces, generating a real production increase from reflected light off the surface below — commonly a meaningful percentage gain depending on installation height and ground albedo. Does this change DC cable sizing?
Cable sizing is driven by the module's rated short-circuit current (Isc) figure from its datasheet — for a bifacial module, this datasheet Isc figure already reflects the manufacturer's tested rating, which may or may not explicitly separate front-side-only vs. bifacial-gain-included figures depending on how the datasheet presents it.
Always confirm which Isc figure a bifacial module's datasheet is actually presenting — if it's a front-side-only STC rating, real-world bifacial gain could push actual operating current somewhat higher than that baseline figure under favorable reflective conditions. Sizing DC cable with the standard safety multiplier (see the dedicated 1.25×Isc article) already builds in meaningful headroom, but it's worth understanding the underlying reason rather than assuming bifacial panels are sized identically to monofacial ones without a second look at the datasheet.
