Every existing calculator now includes a plain-language intro and an expandable definitions section — explaining not just the result, but why it is what it is.
Every calculator across OhmWorks' four tabs — PEC, AS/NZS, NEC, and Plumbing — just got a real upgrade: a plain-language introduction explaining what the calculator actually does, and an expandable "How this works & definitions" section covering the core concepts behind it.
A calculator that just outputs a number is useful. A calculator that also explains why that's the number — what governed the result, what a term like "ampacity" or "fixture unit" actually means, what mistake a given rule is protecting against — is genuinely more useful, especially for anyone still building familiarity with a specific code's logic.
Not generic filler — real, specific content pulled from the same research this project has done throughout: why ambient temperature correction matters, why a lower earth fault loop impedance is actually the safer outcome, why DC solar cable gets a tighter voltage drop limit than general AC wiring, why the NEC's voltage drop guidance is technically an Informational Note but should be treated as a hard limit anyway, and more — tailored to each specific calculator.
This wasn't limited to newly added calculators — all 16 existing calculators across every tab were updated with the same treatment, so the whole app reads consistently now, not just the newest additions.
Open any calculator in the OhmWorks app and look for the "How this works & definitions" section below the result.
